Alta Mae Williams Born: 4/26/1850 Albany, NY Died: 4/22/1917 daughter of Oren & Adaline Williams

Alta had come with her parents, at the age of 16 she came to Poweshiek County, Iowa, where she resided until her marriage on May 12, 1870.  Alta and Daniel returned to Clarke County, IA where they made their home on a farm.

Daniel Nussbaum suffered from poor health later in life.  Nettie (Edna's mother) and her brothers and sisters were forced at an early age to to leave home and make their own way in the world. 

Daniel Nussbaum passed away on September 12, 1899.  In the year 1908, his wife Alta married Nicholas Furrer of near Osceola, Iowa.  Nicholas died May of 1916.  Her son John, who at the time was unmarried, had returned fro France where he had been stationed as an America soldier during World War I.  He had filed on government ground for a homestead in Wyoming and took his mother there to live with him.  Within a year, on April 22, 1917, Alta had passed away.  She and her family were members of the Methodist church.

After Nettie completed country school, she came to Powesheik County and assisted with housework in homes of people whom needed extra help.  During this time she was taught to be a very proficient dressmaker and later, with an aunt, spent some time in Chicago working in that profession.  She later returned to Brooklyn, IA and on February 10, 1903 was married to Godfrey (Fred) Crider
